MAIORI, the TERRITORY

The territory of Maiori is included, on the sea, between that of Minori, to the west, and that of Cetara, to the east. The upper part of the municipality borders on Tramonti.

Along the provincial road, which leads from Chiunzi di Tramonti to the sea, you cross the hamlet Ponteprimario -which is the first of the high hamlets of the city- followed by Vecite, Santa Maria delle Grazie and San Pietro, with the historical Castle of San Nicola de Thoro Plano.

Once at the church of San Domenico, the city center begins with its two main streets: the Corso Reginna and the Via Nuova Chiunzi.

Continuing towards the sea, the city is divided into the historic inhabited nuclei of Paie, Vena and Campo, to the west, and those of Lama, Casale dei Cicerali and Lazzaro, to the east.

The promenade and the long beach are between the so-called Torricella or Torre Mezzacapo, to the west, on the border with the Municipality of Minori, and the Norman Tower, to the east.

The coastal area of Maiori, then, extends eastwards, for a length of about 9 km, to arrive, with the panoramic Amalfi road, on the border with Cetara.

To the east, the sea strip towards Cetara, with caves, small beaches and defensive towers, passes through Salicerchie, Cannaverde, the Cemetery, Santa Maria de Olearia and includes Capo d’Orso, with its lighthouse, and the hamlet Erchie.

The mountain part of the territory, to the east, includes Monte Falerzio, on which stands the famous Santuario dell’Avvocata.
